We had intended to explore the Southwest Coast of England in the fall of 2017, but friends persuaded us to pay them a second visit at their farm in Norfolk, so we rented a car, drove to Brighton and then turned eastwards.

We had a terrific time exploring the famous seaside bathing beaches, walking along the trails atop the ‘White Cliffs of Dover’ and visiting the photogenic town of Rye. We explored the beaches and back-roads on our way to a guesthouse near Sandwich. Then we made our way across the Thames near Darford and drove north to Norwich.

After a lovely stay at our friend’s farm, we had hoped to carry on to York and then northern Wales, but the infamous hurricane Maria, (yes the one that almost wiped Puerto Rico off the map), made it’s way up to Canada and then across the Atlantic to Ireland and the United Kingdom.

The storm looked so ominous that we headed straight to Heathrow, and flew to the Republic of Georgia, on the eastern edge of the Black Sea. No rain there, and we had an idyllic three weeks exploring Georgia and it’s many charms. Needless to say, we ended up nowhere near the lovely English counties of Dorset, Somerset or Cornwall.

So, this time we are determined to see southwest England, stopping at Bath, Plymouth, Land’s End and St. Ives if the weather cooperates. If it doesn’t, we’ll be on a plane to Sofia with hopes of touring around Bulgaria and Romania.

We’ve booked our journey home from Larnaca, Cyprus so we’ll have to get there eventually. We hope to spend the last two weeks of our 60-day trip enjoying the sun with my sister Donna McColl and her husband Duncan. They are on their own trip to Europe, starting out in Spain and ending up with us.
