We're finally going round the world! travel blog

Our pretty room in Hostal Colonial, Colonia

It's serene and relaxing here - just what we were looking for...

Half way up the lighthouse

still halfway up!

Getting to the top of the lighthouse (there were 118 steps!)

We cycled along the coast in the background later

The lighthouse (and, if you look really closely, Tara!)

He's upside down again!

It must be catching!

Yesterday he showed us the way from the ferry to the hostel,...

That's the lighthouse we climbed this morning

Sardines for lunch :)

Playing on the beach

We came to Colonia on the spur of the moment, but love it! It's a sleepy, historic town with cobbled streets and lots of friendly dogs (which we're not patting cos the travel clinic lady scared us about rabies!!) We got here on the ferry from Buenos Aires yesterday and are staying in a very pretty hostel that lent us free bikes, so we've had a lovely day cycling around the old town and along the coast (had sardines for lunch on the beach, and played capoeira :)). Think we'll catch the bus to Carmelo (also in Uruguay) tomorrow.
