Bob & Bonnie’s Great Alaska Adventure travel blog

Bonnie’s getting the hang of driving a big rig.

Fresno, CA

Awesome Mexican restaurant named Toledo’s complete with awesome music.

Elks Lodge RV park, Fresno, CA.

Left late from Emma Wood after a 6 mile morning hike along the beach. The weather was picture perfect. Hit the road about noon. Stopped for fuel in Bakersfield. Averaged 7 mph up to that point. Had about 60 gallons of two year old fuel in the 100 gallon diesel tank before we topped off before leaving. That old fuel may have contributed to a little loss of efficiency as I was expecting to average about 8 it slightly better. Oh well it’ll get better. Have a slow leak in one of the rear inner tire. I think it’s the valve extension.

Had an absolutely scrumptious lunch in a rest stop near Bakersfield that Bonnie put together. Awesome salad complete with fresh greens, nuts, avocados, tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber and salmon. It was fantastic. Food is so much better on the road (especially a couple hours after a six mile morning hike).

Got to Fresno about 6:00. Bob drove for 2/3 and Bonnie drove the last third. Makes it so much easier when there are two drivers. We’re staying at the Fresno Elks lodge. It’s not fancy but the price is right. And it’s a decent place to stay although the lodge Itself was closed by the time we arrived. We then walked a mile to a Mexican restaurant named Toledo’s. Talk about authentic! The food was outstanding and there was a live Mariachi band which was really good. We highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Fresno.

Being on the road is incredibly fun. And tomorrow is Monday but we don’t care.
