We're finally going round the world! travel blog

Senggigi wasn't quite the paradise we'd read that it might be: it was pretty, with it's long beaches of black and yellow sand and palm trees, and it was fantastic to get a couple of nights' sleep(!) - especially since they were followed by banana pancake and fresh fruit breakfasts! Walking through town tho, we felt the language and cultural gap more than we have anywhere else, and the touts, selling everything from tours to massages to watches and yoyos, were really relentless: after a while could happily have strangled the next person who greeted us with "where you going?". We decided against going to the Gilis, since the tourists would have been even more concentrated there; instead, after a couple of days we headed inland to Tetebatu, hoping for less tourists and less hassle!
