Byron Glacier and a Trip to Whittier

Jonathan and I went for a walk along the river this morning after breakfast. We wanted to try to get to the foot of the falls and play in the rocks but the path that lead there, we discovered, was an animal path and as low as it was I suspected it was made by bears so we opted to go back to the walking/bike path and just view the glacier from there. We walked about a mile and a half when Jonathan got a blister on his foot so we headed back home.

Tom was about done with work so I made some dinner then we headed out for Whittier. We stopped at the Visitor Center, watched the movie on glaciers and looked around a bit then drove on down to the tunnel. We didn't have to wait at all so that was nice. We drove on through with only one vehicle following. The tunnel is two and a half miles long and one lane wide. There are train tracks that that run through the tunnel as well. When we got through to the other side we found Whittier. The weather has been wet and foggy all day as it was yesterday so we weren't able to see the mountains. There were all kinds of boats docked in Whittier and a glacier cruise came in about the time we arrived. We drove around town exploring for a while then decided to head on back through the tunnel. We arrived back home around 7:30 and are just relaxing this evening.
