Organ grinder on the streets of Mexico City

I just arrived in Mexico City and checked into the hostle. The sun is coming up and there's a smell in the air unlike anything I've ever experienced. Not bad, not good, just different. The sound of a parrot squawking comes from a back room somewhere behind the desk clerk. Outside is the Zocalo, the main square in this city of 22 million. The Presidential Palace is a stone's throw away. The recording gear I packed is very heavy and I'm sure I'll have to lighten my load somehow. I came in on the red eye from Tucson and I'm short on sleep for the last week. You see, last Monday I got the news that my Mom was found dead in her apartment, most likely from an overdose. She had been there for a week before she was found. To say the last week has been profoundly sad is an understatement.

More to come

OMG I now get Diego Rivera. He was much more than a guy who painted on walls. And the way the Mexican government allowed him to express himself, no matter how controversial, is refreshing. If you haven't seen "Frieda" do yourself a favor and RENT THIS VIDEO!!!!

I'm in a country that is not so afraid: not so afraid of nudety and the human body; not so afraid of communism and alternative political ideaology; not so afraid of excessive litigation and entrepreneurship. These people aren't being regulated to death and they're doing FINE !! Yes, I'll admit I'm not addressing certain issues such as criminality, distribution of wealth, discrimination, etc. but, I challenge you to tell me of as country that is free of these issues.
