Update February 23, 2011:Chevron Loses One To the Good People
. Rumipamba is near Cuenca...see map.
Owner arranged to have a taxi pick us up at 5:30am 'a punto' and had to pay a $5 fee to 'use' the pier only to have to again pay a water taxi to get us out to the 'ferry'. The fellow said it was due to low tide but our ferry coming made it in at low tide so...?! A buck more and left at 6:15 - the crossing this time much more pleasant - not even close to the tide swells on way over which beat us up w/ the pounding of the boat as we crested the 10' + swells. All went like clockwork meeting the bus (after a short taxi to bus terminal outside Puerto Ayora) just as it was leaving the station. A large group was gathered for the short river crossing to Baltra and then free standing-room-only bus to airport!
We saw Edwardo (guide) meeting his new group of 24 teenagers and said one final goodbye. He seemed very relaxed - ready to go again - after 2 days off...even he said so.
Flight of 2 1/2 hrs was nice w/ lunch. Read about pending World Soccer Cup (Spanish paper) in S. Afr. Looking forward to seeing how it goes and the enthusiasm of folks down here...Honduras, Uruguay, Mexico, Argentina, and Paraguay there. Now in Hotel Milan
for nite after 6 hour bus to Cuenca that they say should be 4, mainly due to 2 stretches of single lane, one way traffic! Desk clerk welcomed us warmly "Good to see you again!!"
