We hope everyone had a wonderful Fourth of July. The beautiful cake added to the photos was our daughter’s. Vickie made this awesome strawberry cake with blueberries and strawberries for her family for the Fourth. Jerry and I decided to drive the scenic Highway 101 to Orick for the Fourth of July. We stopped at so many beautiful beaches along the way, we drove through a lot of redwoods too. When you see signs saying “vista point” ahead, make sure you stop. The views are almost always outstanding when you see this sign. We enjoyed stopping at the beaches and watching all the kites, surfers and people having fun. We had planned to go back this evening to watch the fireworks. We spent so many hours checking out all the beaches we were tired after about five hours and went home.
The tiny town of Orick is known for their huge elk population. They say they have more elk than people in this little town. They did not disappoint, we had lunch at the local restaurant before heading to the pastures to look for elk. We saw a lot of them feeding in the area. The grass was so high at times you could only see their heads above the grass. This is our second herd of elk since we arrived in California, not bad for about three weeks in California. I am adding pictures taken along the fifty-mile drive to Orick and back. The last pictures are definitely not the least in size, they are of Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, Babe. I hope you enjoy, check back later for more from California.
