April 29-May 2, 2011

London, England

Another short trip and my third weekend away in a row. I was starting to think I’d forget what my new apartment looked like but at least this time Elizabeth would be coming back with me. I flew in late on the Friday night and Naomi and Elizabeth met me at the airport.

On the Saturday we headed out and met my friends Simon and Kate for lunch and a few drinks. We went for lunch to Manze’s in Sutton which is owned by a fellow Palace fan and it was great to get to meet Barbara and her daughter Jen and chat while we ate some lovely pie, mash and liquor! I’d been pre-warned by my mother not to drink too much as we were going out for a big family meal in the evening so I made sure I got home in a reasonable state! In the evening we met up with the whole of my family and had a great night just catching up and chatting and consuming our weight in food and drink!

The Sunday was the day of the Christening and having helped my brother, Nick, prepare some of the food yesterday I was looking forward to a good feed after the church service! You might know, but I’m not exactly a religious person and churches make me feel a little awkward at times and I’m not the sort of person who appreciates being preached at. It’s hardly my first time at a church and there have been occasions where I haven’t switched off mentally immediately but I was hoping today was just going to be a christening. No-one had told me I’d have to sit through the whole regular Sunday morning service first! They must’ve known I’d have made an excuse if they’d told me the truth! Anyway, my lovely niece Hannah and her big sister Charlotte were both impeccably behaved and I was very proud to be asked to be Hannah’s godfather.

Another weekend which went all too quickly but at least this time I wasn’t heading home on my own. The early flight out of Gatwick was a pain but at least Elizabeth would finally get to see the apartment I’d rented for us until August and I wouldn’t be stuck bored at home after long days at work!
