Greetings from Homosassa, Florida where we are enjoying the sunshine and warm breezes from our RV spot along the Homosassa River. We have stayed at Nature’s Resort in the past and we enjoy coming back here to camp in our favorite spot, D-12, alongside the dock that leads to the Homosassa Springs. Dennis especially loves this campground because he has such fond memories of coming here with his family as a young child.
We did a lot of relaxing in our chairs watching the abundant wildlife pass by, there are all types of herons, egrets, eagles, pelicans and even alligators!! Our favorite critter here is the West Indian manatee; they hang out at Homosassa Springs where the water temperature is 72-74 degrees year round. We rented a boat one day and spent 5 hours idling along the Homosassa River and the Springs enjoying the scenery and all the beautiful homes along the river. We were lucky enough to see a few manatees but the best part was seeing a mother manatee with her baby. Tiki joined us on our boat trip and he really seemed to enjoy himself.
Another day was spent at the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park where you can view native Florida animals that have been rescued or orphaned and cannot be released back into the wild. There were Black bear, bobcats, Key deer, panthers, eagles and alligators in the park along with an underwater observatory sunk in the Springs that allowed you to see the multitude of fish that frequent the area.
This will be one of my shorter journals but I couldn’t end it without sending all of you our holiday greetings.
Merry Christmas from Dennis and me and we wish you a happy, healthy 2017!!
