Thursday we made the trip to in Abita Springs RV Park in Abita Springs, which is north of Lake Pontchartrain. This was a rural RV Park in a Pine Tree forest. They had a large parcel of land with several ponds and lots of room to walk. We made a trip to Covington which was a nice size town with lots of big box stores. In the old town area we went to a Hardware Store/Museum which was a lot of fun to walk thru, with all the old items in the store and even older items in the Museum.

We tried going to a boat museum in Mandeville but it was closed, being rebuilt after hurricane damage. We went to Lake Pontchartrain to see the Lake from the north side. We were able to take our first pictures of Pelicans resting on some old pilings.

Sunday we all went to New Orleans and the French Quarters. We drove there over the 30 mile causeway in the center of Lake Pontchartrain. It was an interesting drive over the water, and we all enjoyed it.

Once in the French Quarter, we walked through some of the streets and shops. We ate at Johnnie’s Po Boy and of course had Po Boys. We decided to get more of the flavor of the area by taking a carriage ride. It was a very good hour ride with a very talkative lady driver, who gave us lots of information. We returned to the RV Park by going around the east side of the Lake through Slidell.

Monday morning Kathy and Jerry left to continue their trip to Florida. We chose to stay a few more days to get caught up on a few things and relax in this park. We packed up on Thursday morning and headed east to continue our travels.
