Ranch on the Ridge

Saturday we again packed a lunch and headed out for another day in search of wildlife to photograph. We decided to head south from Mammoth towards Norris. We stopped at couple of area where we had seen bears on previous trips, but no luck. When we got into the open meadow at the Swan Lake area there were a lot of cars stopping and looking out in the meadow. There was a Grizzly bear with 2 cubs out in the meadow browsing. We were told she was the Grizzly that had quads 2 years ago when we were here. We stopped and setup our cameras and tripods for a photo session. We stayed there about 30 minutes, getting a lot of photos of the bears. A little farther south we came upon another bear in a field and a bunch of cars stopped. We spent some time there taking more pictures before continuing on to Norris.

We had our lunch at a picnic area at Norris (yep, two picnic lunches in two days!) before heading back. The Grizzly and 2 cubs were still in the Swan Lake area so we stopped for a few more pictures. Our final stop was to drive through Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces. We enjoy all the colors and textures in the Hot Springs. Finally back to the coach to download the photos from the cameras. We enjoyed a little sunset viewing from outside the coach and a final night in Gardiner. Sunday it will be on to Missoula.
