25 July 2013

Today started cloudy but the forecast was to clear and become sunny and hot.

Further on from Oberstdorf the valley road crosses the border into Austria and ends at the small village of Mittelberg. Here we took the cable car up to the summit of the Walmendingerhorn at 1996m (6,650ft). Again there were fantastic views from summit but just as we were going to head out a brief storm came over. We waited a while for it to clear and started on down on a well marked trail back to Mittleberg.

The trail took us through Alpine meadows with beautiful flowers and along a side valley with gorged hills and then through woodland to reach the small village of Baad. By this time the sun was hot and we were tired so we caught the bus back to Mittleberg.

It had been another excellent walk and so we decided we would stop at the Konditorie in Mittleberg for afternoon tea and cake!
