We are in beautiful Bled, Slovenia with our son, Jerry Junior. He flew into Ljubljana International Airport and we took the bus from Trieste to meet him. We rented a car and drove about 35 miles to see the incredible lake and town. Lake Bled is a lake in the Julian Alps in northwestern Slovenia, where it adjoins the town of Bled. The area is a popular tourist destination.
The lake is of mixed glacial and tectonic origins. It is 6,960 feet long and 4,530 feet wide with a maximum depth of 97 feet. The lake is situated in a picturesque environment, surrounded by massive mountains and forests. The medieval-era Bled Castle stands above the lake on the north shore. The Zaka Valley lies at the west end of the lake. I was wishing Betty was with us, I would love to have her to do a painting of this incredible area. Everywhere you look it’s like a post card photo. Absolutely incredible beauty!
We spent the night at the Olympia Hotel on the third floor, we had awesome views of the lake from the hotel. After a good nights rest, we had a few hours before returning the car, we drove to the top of the castle and then into the surrounding countryside for more awesome views. I hope you enjoy the pictures of this amazing area as much as I enjoyed taking them. :-) I have been to a lot of places, this rates very high on my all time beauty list. :-) We all had a wonderful trip. Check back later for more while we tour Trieste and more of Slovenia with our son.
