We took the train to Venice today and had a wonderful visit. This is our second time going there, we rode the gondola the last time in 1995, so we skipped it this time. If the price had been more reasonable, we would have taken a second ride, but they wanted 80 euros each. Yikes! We were amazed how easy it is to visit Venice by train. The train lets you off right at in the city, you walk out of the train station and you see the Grand Canal right away. It was awesome! We did make a mistake of going on a Saturday, what were we thinking? The place was so crowded we could hardly walk. We stopped and had an appetizer at one of the outside cafes and let some of the crowds pass. Two cruise ships were in town and they had just unloaded. :-)
We walked all over town and shopped and shopped and shopped. Jerry bought a hat with Italia written on it and I bought some gorgeous glass jewelry. I will have to take pictures of the necklace, bracelet and earring when I wear them and show my readers. They are multi-colored Murano glass, the glass Italy is famous for. What sold me on my set was the awesome cut of the stones and the rhinestones next to each bead. I used to sell jewelry and the necklace along would sell for over $125 in Florida, I got it for only $40. The prices all over town were very reasonable, except the gondola rides.
We loved our visit to Venice, we are finding we don’t need a car at all while staying in Italy. We are planning many more train trips all over Europe. I am adding a lot of pictures of this gorgeous city and hope you enjoy them. Check back later for more.
