This morning we got put things away and got ready to drive. Today we got to drive over the Mackinac Island Bridge. We drove to Traverse City and then camped at the Northwest Michigan Fairgrounds. There were a few campers at the park but it was mostly deserted.

After we had lunch we decided to drive around the area a bit. We drove to the Old Mission Lighthouse at the end of the Old Mission Peninsula where we found the lighthouse but also we found an old log cabin called the Hesler Log House. The Hesler Log House was moved to this site but was built and lived in by the Heslers in the 1850's.

The Mission Lighthouse was built in 1870. It is half way between the North Pole and the Equator exactly on the 45th parallel. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1933 but it is maintained by Peninsula Township and short-term light keepers are allowed to live in the lighthouse.

After we left there we drove around a little and found the climbing dunes in Sleeping Bear Dunes Park. We're going to be exploring this area tomorrow.
