e 26 (Luxembourg )

Caught up on some serious washing then drove to a nearby village - Diereich where there was an American Military Museum dedicated to all the American soldiers lost in WWII.An incredible collection of weapons, equipment, uniforms, food containers, tanks, vehicles…you name it,if it was used in WWII it was here…German as well as American.Great life like displays ( Diaramas ) depicting war scenes many based on photos taken by soldiers during the war ( photos displayed ) or by accounts re-told by survivors.Pretty amazing and very moving.Very pertinant as this area of Luxembourg was the centre of some famous battles … the American soldiers liberated Diereich in January 1944 after a serious assult and the loss of 700 American lives in -45 deg temps.People of Luxembourg very much indebited to USA and that feeling is still evident today. Was quite something to be looking around the town and countryside and imagining what happened here 65 years ago.So beautiful and peaceful now…a very different story then.

Drove on north to another beautiful village-Viarden…centre of the Luxembourg Resistence and home of the most beautifully restored castle sitting on a cliff top overlooking the village and river below.
