Bus at 10:45 - countryside dairy farming, lots of pasture, berry farms (raspberry/blackberry), apple+other orchards, eucalyptus/pine tree farms, oats...beautiful, cool, sunny...rolling hills, everything very green. Whole area settled/jomesteaded by Germans mostly they say. It shows...Chileans love flowers - roses, hydrangias, azaleas esp. - I've seen azalea bushes bigger than the tallest lilacs, even mistook them for lilac at 1st!

Passed huge planting (200 ac?!) of what appears to be blueberries. This area of Chile appears very well off altho as we've seen thruout Chile the homes are quite modest by US standards, I'd say even small...single story mostly w/ corrugated metal roofs. Hwy. is modern, 4 lane, divided w/ cloverleaf interchanges. Flat to rolling hills terrain...Chileans plant lots & lots of windbreak trees, they are everywhere even around the smallest fields & pastures, along most fencerows and many roadways (ha, block our tourist viewing). Trees are euchs, pines/evergreens, poplars, even maples and willow.

Arr. in Pucon mid-afternoon, gal at bus station takes us to her Hostel Alicia where we get an apt. w/ kitchen, bath, hot H2O, sep bedrooms & lvg room...nice. A tourist town like Banff or Whistler, we walk around, great views of nearby snowcapped Villarrica Volcano. Everything is priced for higher end tourists, we are not willing to shell out the $$$ for tours, etc.
