Made it to our future home of Neptune Beach. We have owned a house 500 feet from the beach for over 13 years and soon our retirement place of choice will be our home. Neptune Beach is one of the Jacksonville Fl beaches. We fell in love with this place when we lived in Jacksonville in the late '80s when we were introduced to the "beaches" by Aunt Carolyn who has been documented in these blogs numerous times. Just a short stay at the Walmart in Jax Beach as we are on our way to Daytona for the Good Sam camper rally with.....wait for it......wait, Don and Jeanne! Yes, Dezi, Lucy, Fred and Ethel will be together again for 4 days. One sad point about Neptune Beach that some readers will find sad as well is that the Sun Dog Diner is closing after 26 years. We have such fond memories of this place that was the first business to come to what has become known as Town Center and has been a cornerstone of the development of this little jewel of ours. We hope someone else fills this spot and we can begin more memories. On the Long Island home front my father had the environmental folks out to work on getting the oil out of the basement. The water is gone but 275 gallons of heating oil leaked out. Everything in the downstairs and basement is ruined and the house reeks of oil. The tank was just filled for the winter and the water tilted it enough to put pressure on one of the legs which buckled and broke the line to the furnace. Optimistically, Dad hopes to be back in the house by Christmas. This is putting stress on Herta because she wants to go home and her mind can not comprehend why they can't. She can be told but in a minute or two she doesn't remember why she can't go home. It indeed is very sad. My brother said he would be at Dad's this weekend. After we vote in Crestview FL Tuesday I will assess if I will go up. This should be an easy decision but I am not sure what I can do but lend moral support which is not a bad thing. Not sure where I'd stay since there is no room in Astrida's house and Herta's grand daughter still does not have electric. Time will tell. Thanks for your thoughts and continued prayers for this worst of situations for Dad and Herta. Enjoy the pics.
