LIFES ONE LONG HOLIDAY - 2005 travel blog

We drove to go Townsville for only one reason: The Yongalla

Its a ship that sank about 50 years ago in the Great Barrier Reef and is now classified as one of the best dive sites in Australia. We decided we couldn't miss out on this opportunity. We arrived late in the afternoon, stayed the night and went to the dive shop early the next morning. That days trip had been cancelled due to rain, so they told us to come back at 3:30 that afternoon after which time they would have the weather report for the following day.

Townsville is not the most exciting town to spend the day, so we ended up going to see a film for the first time since we've been away. On our way to the cinema, we heard this converstaion between bums...

"I would kill for a beer."

"Yeah, I would kill for a cigarette!" A bit scary when you think about it but they were harmless. Did I mention it was 10: 30am?

There wasn't much of a selection, so we ended up seeing The Upside of Anger with Kevin Kostner. Not a bad movie, not a great one either.

Passed the rest of the day at an Internet cafe.

Went back to the dive shop, where they told us the news we didn't want to hear. No trip would be leaving the next day. Bummer. At least we can say we tried and at least we don't know what we're missing.
