We were really surprised to see how much Durango has grown since our last visit about 12 years ago. Durango is known for the Silverton & Durango Narrow Gauge Railroad. In the 1880s a narrow rail line was strung along the Animas River, a twisting river gorge, to connect Silverton & Durango. We enjoyed this awesome ride our last visit. The train is an authentic coal fired steam engine that pulls passengers in narrow gauge cars on an incredible scenic journey. We are planning to drive this scenic drive in our car this time.
We love this incredible town with it’s historic silver boom-town feel and all the beautiful Victorian architecture. We also enjoyed watching all people rafting down the Animas River. We are staying in the woods about 6 miles from Durango and plan quite a few visits to the area. Check back later for more from Durango.
