|Left Phnom Penh late last night and cruised down the Mekong for about three hours before anchoring for the night. Underway again about 6am and crossed the border into Vietnam at Chua Doc village. Anchored for about an hour while customs officials from first Cambodia and then Vietnam boarded the boat to check documentation. Finally arrived in Chua Doc City around noon. The area is heavily involved in fish farming so we visited one of the floating farms. The family lives in a house floating on the river and under the house is a cadge holding some 20,000 fish. The farmer harvests the fish once a year for sale in some of the bigger cities.
We drove up Sam Mountain which rises about 2500 feet over the city and got a great view of the surrounding countryside which had acres and acres of rice paddy. Finally we explored the city market and visited the Lady Xu temple.
We overnight tonight at Chua Doc City before continuing down the Mekong in the morning.
