We are in the beautiful town of Sandpoint, Idaho. This is one of our favorite towns in Idaho, so far. We really didn't know what to expect, we were just continuing our scenic drive along the awesome Pend Oreille River. When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The first thing we saw was a huge farmer's market going on. We stopped and got a few things we needed, onions for a stir fry etc.
We rode around a bit familiarizing ourselves with the town, we ran right into City Park. It is an awesome beach area with boat rentals and beautiful sandy beaches. It made us feel like we were at a real ocean beach. :-) They even have boat tours available.
Sandpoint lies on the shores of Idaho's largest lake, 43-mile-long Lake Pend Oreille, and is surrounded by three major mountain ranges, the Selkirk, Cabinet and Bitterroot ranges. It is home to Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort, Idaho's second largest ski resort after Sun Valley, and is on the International Selkirk Loop and two National Scenic Byways (Wild Horse Trail and Pend Oreille Scenic Byway). Among other distinctions awarded by national media in the past decade, in 2011 Sandpoint was named the nation's "Most Beautiful Small Town" by Rand McNally and USA Today.
Wow! We can certainly see why. I will let the pictures tell the rest of the story. Check back later for more from Idaho.
