Yellowstone National Park to Jackson, Wyoming via Grand Teton National Park (112miles/179km)

This morning we had breakfast at the Old Faithful Inn again, packed up and checked out. We viewed Old Faithful geyser for the last time as we went on a walk near the inn on the boardwalks viewing all the geysers nearby. It was dry today, but cold and cloudy. We then drove out of the park over the Continental Divide (rain that falls to the east flows to the Pacific in rivers and streams and rain that falls to the west of the Divide flows to the Gulf of Mexico) and continued down towards the Grand Teton National Park through some of the most amazingly beautiful scenic country imaginable. Snow-capped mountains, extensive pine forests, rivers running through canyons, large glacier fed lakes – this country has it all. Photo opportunities open up at every bend of the road. The road then flattened out at an altitude of about 6,200ft and we arrived at Jackson at around 2pm and checked into our motel, an old style American place that had been taken over by another hotel around the corner. We then walked round the town – there are many fancy shops in this town and it is very expensive, but we found a really nice restaurant to have dinner and afterwards watched a “shoot-out” in the town before heading back to the motel for the evening.
