Smythe Family On The Road travel blog

Thursday, April 16, 2009. Klamath River RV Park, Klamath, CA The Avenue of The Giants Jonathan and I headed out on our own this morning. The first place we stopped was across the road. The One Log House and the Grandfather Tree were both right across the street from us. We stopped back by the rig with milk and for Jonathan to change his shoes when we were done then headed on up the Avenue of The Giants. It turned out to be a great day. We spent the rest of the afternoon driving through the Redwoods and then literally "driving through a Redwood!" Take a look at some of our pictures. We got to the "Immortal Tree" which had a large parking lot by it for a campground and store. I couldn't get a signal on my cell phone so I thought I'd go inside and try it in there. When the store clerk saw me he said "Nope, not going to get any service in here" then asked if it was an emergency. I told him I was trying to reach my husband. The plan was that Tom would start driving around 2:00 and eventually catch up with us in the Eureka Costco parking lot but I figured he couldn't be that far behind us so why not meet up here? The man in the store asked me if it was an emergency and when I explained he said "That sounds like an emergency to me!" and let me use his land line phone to call Tom so we hooked up there, had an ice cream treat, then hit the road again. We still stopped at Costco for a few odds and ends then headed on to the campground.
