Only back in Melbourne city for two nights this time. My brother Gary and his family are over on holiday, so on the Friday night while Nancy had a night with Helen and Derek, I went out on a boys night in the city, with my brother, my nephew and Merv (my brother in law). I do not remember too much of the evening, except that my brother and Merv left around 1am. My nephew then continued to drink me under the table, and I was kindly escorted from the pub/club by a bouncer for swaying a bit too much on the dance floor! I actually think I put in a reasonable performance.... It was at this time 3.30am (and I had had a light snooze in my chair at 1am!) and I had been drinking pretty heavily since we had lunch at the Hardrock Cafe at 2pm, (and my nephew is 9 years younger than me.....) Think I have now run out of excuses. A shameful effort all round. At least I could not summon up the energy to argue with the bouncer and I was lucky I could stay in the rented apartment the family had in the centre of town (nr Parliament Square).

Nancy had had a nice civilised evening in comparison, and arrived to my still drunken state early on the Saturday morning and we all went to the Melbourne Zoo with the four kids! Great hangover cure! Zoo was excellent however. One of the best we have seen. Really green, and animals seemed very well looked after. Highlights of course have to be seeing the Aussie animals - especially the koalas and the skippies.

Saturday afternoon, we met up with Chris and Ange, our friends from London who have settled in a lovely place on the north-eastern outskirts of Melbourne in Eltham. Met them in town, and were lucky to be taken up the Rialto Tower (where Ange works) to see the fine views of Melbourne and out to sea from about the 35th floor. Now realise just how many big sporting venues Melbourne realy has! Then a quick drink on the Southbank promenade of the Yarra River before driving out to stay for two nights with them in Eltham.
