Anthony and Erica on the road to Mandalay 2006

Anthony travel blog
Hi folks! This is the website for the trip Erica and I took to Myanmar (Burma), and my own trip to Vietnam and Cambodia after Erica had gone home. So if you want to learn about the three different ways of rowing a boat with your legs, read on! And if you can't read it all, just look at the pics on the three 'BEST of country' pages or the final 'BEST of trip' page.

Updating this blog wasn't as difficult as I anticipated in Myanmar, the main problem there was sporadic electricity, which is rationed throughout the whole country and provided on a rota basis (sort of), though sometimes I paid extra for someone to use their generator when I didn't want to wait for the electricity to perhaps come on. I/we had a great time, though probably drank too much! To summarise, Myanmar is fabulous, like all the best of India and Thailand and little of the crappy bits, except for the corrupt and incompetent military dictatorship. If you can hack banana republic generals, you must visit. The Angkor area in Cambodia is as fabulous as it was last time I went, though this time I spent a lot more time there. Still one of the wonders of the human world. Vietnam was fab, lovely food, lovely people, cheap and interesting. And some really energetic, buzzy cities: Bangkok, Pnomh Penh, Saigon, Hanoi...great!

As this blog is also a journal to help me with my Alzheimer's Reminiscence Therapy in the not too distant future, my apologies if I go on a bit. Bear with me. That is a picture of me on the left, in front of some bamboo during a 2-day trek in the Burmese Golden Triangle. And for the keen, you can find out a bit more about previous adventures in South America and China, Tibet and Nepal from the links near the top of this page.
