Carol's Adventures 2006 and 2007! travel blog

I decided to do a side trip to Halong Bay and take in some of the beautiful scenery around this area. A two-day/one-night boat trip allowed me to meet a lovely bunch of people, visit some interesting caves and relax, as our traditional junk-style boat sailed between the limestone rock formations. We also had a little time for swimming and kayaking at various spots along the way... best way to enjoy the experience is to do it, otherwise look at my photo's for this part - although they don't really do it justice.

It was really enjoyable to have all our food provided in the on-board restaurant and to sip our sundowner beverages (quite alot of them!) on the top deck whilst the lights from the other boats twinkled on the water and the stars filled the sky.

Other people on my boat were: Spanish couple Amaia and Alberto, 2 Irish girls Suzannah and... er.. her mate!, 3 guys from KL called Cat, Chye and Steven, Crazy Czech guy called Mark, English bloke called James, 3 canadian girls and a guy from USA who's names I can't remember (writing this several months later).

We timed our trip very well because we had great weather but as we were approaching the harbour the clouds started rolling in and the sky turned grey as a storm was just about to whip up... but luckily it didn't matter to me as I had to go and get on the overnight train to Hoi An.
