|South Vietnam just gets better and better! We spent 5 nights in Nha Trang, taking in the beautiful beaches and taking advantage of all the great restaurants (we even found a restaurant owned and run by a Canadian chef who had poutine and the best chocolate cake ever!...a rare find in Asia to say the least!)
On the 9th, we celebrated my 23rd birthday...gotta say, one of the best birthdays ever...We spent my birthday on the beach, drinking beers and eating lobster fresh off the grill for dinner...so good! It was crazy, they cook it for you on a grill right on the street...you just pick a lobster and then take a seat on a tiny plastic chair that would fit a 5 year old but everyone sits on them here, and then they throw it over a tiny BBQ...
In the night we went out and drank way tooo much with some people we met and the next thing I know the whole bar is singing me happy birthday at like 2am! So random...then on the way home, Matt decides its time to drive like a Vietnamese...they have these cylos here where a dude pedals you around in a basket...so Matt pays the guy to drive us home, but he gets the driver to hop in with me, and MAtt himself takes the pedals...gets going pretty fast, and the next thing you know, we go around a corner and we flip the whole thing!!! So funny, the next thing I remember I see all these Vietnamese staring down at me and Matt sooooooo worried I was hurt (i wasn't, except for a bloody knee), and my new pants I got tailored in Hoi An ripped right down the bum!!! At least I didnt pay very much for them!
Spent the rest of our time in Nha Trang soaking up the sun...we also spent a day on this fun harbour boat cruise where they take you out for the day and you snorkel and eat and then after lunch, they get everyone in to floaties in the water and they set up a free floating bar...the "wine" they gave us was like 25% and tasted more like straight rum, but the more you had the better it tasted! There was also live entertainment provided by the Vietnamese on board band, which consisted of a David Suzuki look alike and an old man who had a thing for coconut bikinis, who belted out CCR hits like we've never heard!
We also met up with our friends from Laos there, Wayne and Rachel and met a couple from North Van on the boat trip who were really fun...another day we went to this crazy hot springs/mud bath spa, where for 3$ you spend the whole day in mud baths and then mineral baths...we both thought that the water would make you feel really dirty, but you actually don't feel dirty at all, and afterwards your skin is so soft...
After 5 nights flew by there, we were on the beach town of Mui Ne...
