A view from a distance

Hi, it's Janet speaking. It's time for me to share a few things with you.

Well the time has come to leave the great state of Texas and head North for the summer. We met so many nice people here in the valley and made lots of new friends. We'll be back next winter!

Since San Antonio is on our way, we decided to stop for a couple of days to do a little sight-seeing. Braunig Lake RV Resort is located just south of SA, so we planned to stay for a couple of days. It is St Patrick's Day and the park is having a corned beef and cabbage dinner in the clubhouse. It was very good! I like this park because, so far, I haven't had to cook! They serve pancakes or biscuits & gravy for breakfast, so of course we had to partake. We met a lot of friendly people who mentioned some of the places to see and things to do while in the area.

I was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio while serving in the Army and was courious to see how much the area has changed since 1965. Boy, was I surprised! We headed in to town and found a parking place. We then started walking.....and walking, and walking. We got plenty of exercise, it was a beautiful day! Things have changed so much over the years, go figure! Nothing looks the same. We found the familiar Alamo. From what I can remember, it seems like this has even changed. But you know, over 40 plus years, things can change alot. Everything was beautiful and we really enjoyed it.

We walked and walked some more. We wanted to see the Riverwalk. This has really changed, and for the better. They give boat rides on the river, so we took one. Afterwards, we stopped and had lunch at one of the many outdoor cafes. It was great food and great atmosphere and fun was had by all.

Now one of the attractions that didn't exist when I was here was the Tower of the America's. We took the elevator to the top for a panoramic view of San Antonio. Wow, what a sight. The Fort could be seen in the distance. We decided not to drive over there because I knew I wouldn't recognize anything.

We then walked through some open air markets on our way back to the truck. All in all, it was a very fulfilling day.
