Well, it's time to move again. We're headed west and south to Warsaw, Mo. and Truman State Park located on Truman Lake. We will be camp hosting here for the next 4 months. We were greeted by Judy, the assistant administrator, who escorted us to our site. While we were setting up, we met the couple we will be hosting with. Gene & Kay Markes are from Marshall, Mo., and have been coming here for the last 5 years. Little did we know at the time how good of friends we all would become before the summer ends.
As I said, Gene & Kay have been hosting here for awhile, so they are pros. They showed us the ropes and told us everything we would be expected to do as hosts. We even worked the fee booth with them a couple of weekends. This was a very interesting experience! The work is not all that hard. It's mainly collecting camper fees, posting and removing tags and, of course, answering questions. For our efforts, we get a full hook-up site, free laundry and firewood. We also get a camping coupon good at any Mo State Park for each month we work. I think we will enjoy this!
Zach and Brendon came down to spend a weekend with us. We enjoyed showing them around. They loved seeing all the deer and turkeys. We had a great time with them.
Every year, the state puts on a Camp Host Rally at a different part of the state. Toward the end of April, we went to Meramec State Park for this years get together. It was very informative and we had a great time. We learned alot and met a bunch of nice people. We hope to get to next years rally.
Everyone working at Truman is really great. Gary is the head of the park. Judy is second in command. Jacquie, the office assistant, is maybe the most important person here. She seems to be the glue that holds the whole park together. All the guys and gals in maintenance are great. Then there is Nikki! She is a high school grad who works in the office and also in maintenance. She is a great kid. We are looking forward to seeing everyone again next summer.
