Rio was a BIG change from Ilha Grande! It's hard to describe, and full of contrasts - the scenery is stunning, especially from the Christo and the Sugarloaf, and it's incredibly alive. We stayed in a hostel in Lapa (its reception turned into a club at night!), and in the evenings everyone (really - everyone!) came together to samba and party in the street. But the poverty, and the contrast between rich and poor, was more present here than we've seen anywhere else - families were bathing in the fountains next to theatre-goers sipping their cocktails.
