|Beautiful driving day. Around 7:30 this morning I was having coffee & watching the "early birds" pull out of the hotel parking lot. Around 9 a.m. I decided to look at the national weather service to see whether I should wear shorts. Forecast was for 97 F in Redding ... oh crap, I better go...
The car happily climbs mountains but I wasn't sure if it would be happy in that kind of heat ... I remember overheating my old Mustang (a straight 6) on the Coquihalla. Not a problem as it turned out .. the temp gauge didn't budge. My only problem was the melted chocolate all over the console.
The route from the coast to Redding was beautiful .. with the exception of the pine beetle areas. Had a very nice lunch in Weaverville, a former gold-mining town in the mountains (will post a pic later). Then Redding, then the I-5 to Red Bluff. Then I meant to get on the 36 but somehow ended up on the 99, so took a longer than necessary route to Chester, which is a mountain town. The landscape is kinda like Jasper. Tomorrow should be an easy drive to Tahoe where I get to stay somewhere 2 nights in a row.
