to ease my soul .... So when we last met, I was headed to Waipu (go ahead and chuckle, I did). Stayed in a beautiful campsite along a great stretch of beach. Took a nice long walk along the ocean and had a tasty meal with homemade donuts for dessert. Then it was off to Tutukaka, NZ which is the jumping off point for the Poor Knights Islands. I went scuba diving with Dive Tutukaka and it was one of the most incredible places to dive I've ever been. The second dive was especially memorable - the site (Blue Maomao Hole) was through a huge hole in one of the islands and the colors, the boulders, the kelp, the fish life (stingrays, scorpion fish) and a giant school of Blue Maomao fish that surrounded me like a curtain was other worldly! Amazing. The water was freezing though, so I'm not sure how many more dives are in store for me while in NZ? I am thinking about diving the wreck of the Rainbow Warrior which has a great story to go along with it....stay tuned. I continued north to Paihia, with a quick stop in Kawakawa to check out the public toilets (designed and made famous by some dude named Hundertwasser - go ahead Google it) I needed to use the facilities anyway, but it is mind-boggling what is considered a tourist attraction these days! I stayed for a few days at the Beachside Holiday Park (www.beachsideholiday.co.nz) and after sitting out a day of rain, went for a Dolphin Cruise in the Bay Of Islands. Saw some pods of Bottlenose Dolphins and then we cruised through the famous "Hole In The Rock". I took in some culture and history at the Waitangi Treaty Grounds - the birthplace of New Zealand - which is where the Maori and the British signed their treaty. I also learned how to do the Haka - the Maori dance now mostly attributed to the All Blacks NZ Rugby Team. Stayed last night at Haruru Falls in the Falls Motel & Waterfront Campground (www.falls.co.nz) with a great site looking at the falls. Well, I'm back in the Spaceship and ready to blastoff for the Far North. The destination is Doubtless Bay. I'll keep you posted. Peace and love to all, Frank *** Photos are up! I added some to all the updates, so time to go back through! ***
