Me and Mine just completed my favorite canoe trip in the Adirondacks. We canoed about 4 miles up the Oswegatchie River to High Rock. The Oswegatchie River is more crooked than a politician. The twists and turns made it a really fun paddle. I am not ashamed to admit that we ran into the bushes on the side of the bank more than a few times because it is sometimes difficult to turn a 16 foot long canoe in the current and wind. We only had to run one beaver dam and it took us over 6 attempts before we finally made it over. We saw a bald eagle flying overhead on our trip which caught us both by surprise. There are camp sites all along the river. Lots of people continue up to High Falls but that is a 2 or 3 day trip. If you are looking for a place to canoe in the Adirondacks, then canoe the Oswegatchie River...just don't forget your bug spray.
