The Capper Nomads North America Adventure travel blog

Today we visited the Hudson Valley. This was the place where the rich had many of their summer homes. All had views over the Hudson River. We visited two of the homes, Wilderstein and the Vanderbilt Mansions.

Wilderstein was the Victorian home of three generations of the Suckley family, descendants of the Beekmans and Livingstons. Grounds were designed in the American Romantic Landscape style by Calvert Vaux.

The Vanderbilt Mansion was built by Frederick Vanderbilt in 1898 where he joined many of the rich having homes in the Hudson Valley. The house has 50 rooms and has spectacular views over the Hudson River.
