Old Bridge en route to Gisborne

Another long but attractive drive – 4 hours through wonderful gorges and some fairly hairy hairpins ! Set off late in order to explore the inner recesses of Pak ‘n Save. Broke journey in a few places including a short walk through tree fern forest to a very old and (we are told) uniquely engineered bridge to an area that settlers tried to farm for 20 years then gave up – and you can understand why !

We are now in wine country. Gisborne is known for its Chardonnays. Our campsite is on the beach yet again – a bit downmarket from previous ones but still good enough – and we picked up a lovely Pinot Noir along the way which really got our taste buds going. Hawkes Bay tomorrow and wine tasting can start in earnest !
