Along the river in Zurich

The biggest clock in the world, or some other rubbish

Zurich, Switzerland

My parents came over to visit us for a long weekend and I took the Friday off to meet them at the airport. After dropping their bags off at the apartment, we headed into town to stroll around and walked past the lake, up into the Grossmunster, through the old town before stopping for some lunch and a coffee opposite the big porn cinema. I think my mum was a little off-put! In the evening we met Elizabeth and some of our colleagues at a bar on the lake called Bauschanzli and enjoyed a few drinks before going for some traditional Swiss food – pizza!

On the Saturday we took a boat trip along the lake. We went for the 4 hour trip which was really lovely. The weather was gorgeous and once you get out of Zurich, the lake and scenery really opens up. The boat went as far as Rapperswil although we stayed on all the way back into Zurich, enjoying our picnic lunch along the way! I cooked dinner at home in the evening as Switzerland isn’t the sort of place where you want to be eating out too often, even though the choices are good, the prices aren’t very low!

The Sunday was a lazy day and we had another short walk around town including a stop for lunch called Zeughauskeller where we finally got some proper Swiss food for them to try, including some home-made beers. Needless to say, the beers were pretty good! It was great to see my parents and they had a good time visiting somewhere new.
