Great, great day today. Started off with a 4 hour cruise around the Bay of Islands - dolphins, beautiful scenery, a short hike with a Maori guide telling us something of their culture and how they used some of the native plants and trees.

The cruise left from Paihia - couldn't help remembering the great little town of the same name on Maui where Molly's Revenge stayed for a few days on one of our trips to Hawaii. Check out the photos and video of the dolphins and sailing through the "Hole In The Rock"

After the cruise, visited Waitangi where the treaty between the British and the Maori people was signed. Got some great video of a Maori welcome - if that's a welcome, I wouldn't like to be one of their enemies! See the video attached to this entry and some great photos of the carvings inside the meeting house.

Finished up this Valentine's Day in the lovely beach side town of Russell, a short 10 minute ferry ride across the Bay. Great food, including a huge bowl of green lipped mussels in a Thai sauce. Hard to believe this town was know as the "Hellhole of the Pacific" back in the Whaling days.

We'll be sad to leave this beautiful part of NZ tomorrow but also looking forward to arriving at our next destination - the Coromandel peninsula.

Note: I'm catching up on photos from previous days, so check out the earlier blog entries.
