|Late 27 and 28 Feb. Leaving Cartagena, Bogota and back to Havana
The last day at Cartagena was another one of lost time. We had to check out at 1pm, leave for the airport at 3 and the flight was at 5;30. After strolling about the town in the heat and having a coffee Sharon, Allen and I decided to go back to the hotel, cool off and shower before vacating the rooms. Then I hung around in the cool rooftop restaurant reading until departure time.
The last group meal would have been better the night before in Cartagena, but it ws decided to have it in the hotel on arrival – without calculating the delays in the airport, getting the bus and sorting out rooms. It became later with the usual chaos around group ordering and billing so I was pretty fed up when I got to my room after 11pm with a 5am wake-up.
S, A & I shared a taxi to the airport and said our goodbyes there – they were off to New York for 2 days before flyinbg home.
I only had the usual problems of trying to find an address in Havana with an unusually rude taxi driver but finally arrived at this beautiful ‘casa’ – a tall old building set up high on a hill. The room is spacious as is the bathroom and well done out in style.
I met two Canadian women who were having lunch and went for dinner with them in the evening. We went to a little local place – hidden away in the suburbs and it made fantastic food. My vegetables, plantain and caparinha came to only £3 approx – anywhere else the caipirnha costs more than that alone. I had a nice evening with unexpected company, but was glad to see my bed at 10pm.
