Sunset at Southland Camping

Yesterday we left Cornwall and drove through Devon to Dorset where we arrived at Crossways Caravan Club Site (DT2 8BE) near Dorchester. It was a nice sunny day and a pleasant drive. We were set up on a large hard-standing area surrounded by trees – the site was £15.90 for the night, has composting toilets and showers in a separate block. There was no WiFi and we were told no TV reception either, but David managed to find a few channels on the TV in the bedroom so he was happy!

It started to rain as it got dark and continued to rain into the night but we woke this morning to another sunny day. We left around 10am and drove to Lymington, stopping for an hour or so in Lyndhurst where we bought yummy pasties for lunch and ate them as we walked.

We arrived at the ferry terminal in Lymington in good time for our 2pm crossing to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight. We’ve booked a pretty good deal through The Caravan Club – ferry crossing for us both and Homer and 4 nights at Southland Campsite (PO36 0LZ) at Sandown for £155.

After following Snooper instead of reading the directions to the campsite we extricated ourselves from a very tight spot in Watery Lane and finally arrived at Southland Campsite in one piece, and spent the rest of the afternoon enjoying the sunshine. This is an immaculate campsite with large pitches, quite full (probably due to the CC deal at the moment) but very peaceful. The bathroom and laundry facilities are excellent.
