Red Dao women - no, they aren't Santa Claus hats

checking the grains of rice

The rest of the trip was similar to the first day - lots of interesting women in traditional dress; lots of cute kids having fun; and interesting sights, sounds, and smells. The homestays were a little disappointing - I had expected more interaction there with the locals, but they pretty much ignored us.

After trekking today, Mao gave me the option of either taking a bus or a motorbike back to Sapa. I chose the motorbike option. It was quite an interesting trip dodging potholes, water buffalo, other motorbikes, people and cars. My driver did a great job and I had really good views.
