Ed and Marilyn, summer trip 2005 travel blog

Friday, 26th of August

Our goodbyes to Leslie and Jens Klaar were said in the morning, after which we headed back to our favorite camping spot, Ninilchik Beach. A calm day on Cook Inlet waters and Ninilchik River was spent fishing for Silver Salmon. Dad/Ed pulled in a nice fat female silver from the river, and I caught my first Silver salmon for this trip , another heavy one, in the surf towards evening near the mouth of the Ninilchik river. We thought the view had been clear and beautiful before but this day beat them all. We could see mountains across the inlet that we hadn't seen before. And the sunset was beautiful. No photograph could ever show it as well as we viewed the sky and mountains.

We made plans during the day for a Halibut fishing charter for tomorrow, so are keeping our fingers crossed for another good day.

Our day ended with a nice dinner of Kalloups, (Swedish type beef dish with allspice seasoning), gravy, mashed potatoes, and string beans on the beach, with a campfire burning beside our campers.

Some thoughts:

Everyone should, at some time in their lives, take a trip like this.

We have not paid much attention to the time of day, except to know what the tide is doing. The only reason we know the date is to check on our fishing license, or to write this journal. We rarely get the opportunity to view our email as wireless computer connection is not available in the dry camping sites we have been enjoying. We know very little of the world news. We buy a local paper now and then to get the flavor of the area where we are staying. We do not think a whole lot about home. We know it is being taken care of by family, and so do not worry about it. We appreciate your help with the lawns, house checks, and mail.

We have been saddened by the illness of our good friend, Ginny Smith. However, after a telephone call to Larry, we learned that she is making steady progress after her stroke, and we are sure she will be home from the rehab hospital soon. Get well soon, Ginny!

Goodnight all.
