On the Road Again-MacRea's RV adventures travel blog

5/7- 5/9/15

A weather alert was issues for elevations over 6,000 ft for snow thru Friday. We decided to head up to Mammoth Lake anyway to experience the snow. We took Hwy 395N and then the Mammoth scenic loop road to the Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center. The drive on the scenic loop was like driving in Tahoe with lot to Lodge pole pine trees…pretty. At the Welcome Center, the clerk advised us to take the Lake Mary Road to take in the lake views. The best view was across on a right hand pull off of the Twin Lakes…3 lakes with two bridges chaining them together. The next best view was Lake George…crystal clear mountain water.

We got to our site #37 at the Mammoth Mountain RV Park around 2 pm. It started to snow. We watched it come down from a light dusting to heavy snow pellets to snowflakes as it cover the surrounding grass area in a matter of 2 hours. I went outside sometime during the heavier downpour to experience the snow and cold. Yes, it was fun. Although the grassy areas are cover by over an inch of snow, the asphalt is only wet. The weather forecast is expecting 5-6 inches overnight. The snow continued to fall the rest of the day and into the night. Outdoor temps got into the mid 20s.

5/9/15 (Friday)

Woke up to a winter wonderland. The snow has covered everything and is about one foot on the picnic tables. The snowplow is out and doing its thing on the roads. It hasn’t reached us yet…8 am. As we are the only MH in our lot, there are no tracks and the snow is pristine. The weather forecast is continued snow and showers until noon. Tioga pass is still closed. We stayed another night.
