Santa Marta Rodadero beaches on a very hot humid day.

A break from our walk-about.. Do I look hot?

On the road again. It's been about 2 months since Portugal and that 14 day Cruise. Oh and the days in New York City and those 4 nights in Atlantic City. I was excited to hear my friend Mary in Colombia needed a travel companion to visit Santa Marta on the Caribbean coast of Colombia.

So here I am, continuing my search for a better beach then any in St. Croix. Also happy to reconnect with Mary whom I visited for a week during my Panama travels.

We met up at the airport in Medellin yesterday and spent a night at a nice airport hotel Santiago de Arma, before returning to the airport this morning for the 1 hour, 15 minute flight to Santa Marta, arriving here about 12:30pm. HOT. When I looked prior to arrival at the expected forecast it said highs of 87, but would feel like 104. That is no understatement!

All we did today was a long walk-about, some shopping (I found the cutest sandals and 2 hats!). We booked a city tour of Santa Marta for tomorrow morning. And had a late lunch in a restaurant we can't remember the name of but had great air conditioning. We shared a meal of rice with seafood (one serving divided, and quite enough) with tostonies and 2 drinks for $50 mil or about $16US.

The $50mil, is the largest dollar bill and it's equal right now to about $16US. That means walking around with a big wad of paper money to amount to anything. We have also learned that most establishments don't want anything larger then the $20mil. Tomorrow may be a stop at the bank to get smaller denominations.

Now resting in a cool air conditioned room, waiting for the evening Caribbean breezes to adventure out again to check out the night life.
