|We don't have much to report for today. After our usual morning walk we met the gang for breakfast and then chilled in our room for a while. We strolled into town for a light lunch and checked out a shop or two before returning to our room. The afternoon was spent relaxing, reading and preparing our formal outfits for tonight. Because it has been a slow 'news day' we've added a couple of photos of the hotel, which is quite grand in its Edwardian style.
We caught the courtesy bus back to the Winter Gardens to watch the amateur ballroom and Latin formation (team) competitions. For these last two days of competition the dress requirement is formal - suits during the day and dinner suits/ballgowns for the evening. It is a great excuse to dress up and mingle with the hoi poloi of the dance world. For this evening we had managed to get seats on the first floor balcony, which afforded good views of the dance floor and was a massive improvement over standing for hours! The Ballroom was, as expected, of a very high standard (and certainly beyond our ability to pick a winner). The formation Latin was also quite something - we were very taken with the team from Bejing whose routine was light on Latin (it was really more contemporary dance) but was spectacular in both design and execution. We ducked out just before the announcement of winners (to beat the mad rush) but still had to queue for a taxi.
It was a great night out, one we'll repeat tomorrow night.
