Samsara, Negril, Jamaica
Samsara is a unique, very comfortable resort to vacation at. The big attraction is the cliff jumping of course as the sign outside indicates “sleep, eat, and jump”. Once I overcame my fear with Abe’s encouragement I was hooked! It is an exhilarating experience!
The staff are friendly, courteous and attentive. The atmosphere is laid back and was quiet as the summer is the “off season”. The restaurant sign says “home cooked meals” and they really are absolutely delicious. It is buffet and Kerry Ann is there to greet you with her big smile and dishes out generous portions of the various selections prepared with love. Breakfast may consists of cornmeal porridge, choice of eggs, hash browns, kokolu/cabbage mixture (a local veggie), Jamaican dumplings, corn beef, dry cereal, toast, coffee, tea, juice.
The caribbean was warm and it was lovely to swim with the gently rolling waves. You can get in by ladder, steps or jumping! I bought a mask and snorkel at the quaint little gift shop and enjoyed viewing all the various colored fish. We saw dolphins one morning jumping in the waves which was a delight to see. In the evening we chose to swim in the warm pool and there is a lovely jacuzzi overlooking the sights as well.
The bar has a long list of special drinks that they mix generously for you. The olympics were on when we were there and were a focus of attention and we participated in a lot of cheering with the Jamaican staff as their native sports persons were televised. Beside the bar was the pool room which included a ping pong table and we had several games, working on our rusty skills!
Our room was equipped with a/c and wifi and was very spacious and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed the balcony overlooking the caribbean and the Samsara resort which included the 2 pools, jacuzzi, spa, and the cliffs encompassing the caribbean.
Usually there was a rainfall in the afternoon which didn’t last to long and gave us a chance to rest either in the room, the bar or the pool room. We looked forward to the sunsets that Negril was famous for but unfortunately the clouds masked the beauty excepting for a few evenings which were fabulous.
We did visit the sister hotel “Legends” which has a beautiful, stretch of white sandy beach. We had a lovely dinner there but really we preferred to return to Samsara and were glad we made the choice we did.
We travelled to Rick’s Cafe which was high on the cliffs and at least a 50’ jump for the brave souls that dared to do it. We preferred the cliffs at Samsara which were not more than 20’. There was a pool, a stage for a band, large bar and restaurant up above on the 2nd floor. The view was gorgeous with nothing but the caribbean as far as the eye could see.
Overall we were thrilled with our choice of Samsara. We relaxed thoroughly in the slow pace and we are both avid water lovers so it was a perfect place to vacation. The food was just like your Mother or Grandmother would make in their old fashioned kitchen with lots of love poured into their efforts.
We were concerned when we read negative reports on trip advisor but I really believe that perhaps those individuals are geared to the higher end 5 star resorts. Samsara is a a small, quaint, homey, laid back atmosphere to have a thoroughly relaxing vacation.
We highly recommend it!
