The Brides Bridge - Parisian's love their bridges

Another beautiful day in Paris.

Last night we took a mini-cruise up the Seine to be nearer the Eiffel Tower. On one of the bridges near the Eiffel Tower is a miniature Statue of Liberty. You know that the French gave the Statue of Liberty to America; well, America gave this miniature version to the French. They have 5 other copies around the city.

This morning the bus took us to the top of the highest of the 7 hills of Paris (it is built on 7 hills, as are Rome and Istanbul), Montmartre. It is primarily known for its artistic history, the Basilica of the Sacre-Coeur on its summit, and as a nightclub district.

The Sacre Coeur Basilica (Basilica of the Sacred Heart)is a Roman Catholic church dedicated to the sacred heart of Jesus.

The center of the nightclub district is the Moulin Rouge, surrounded by many sex shops.

The famous artists who lived and worked here include Monet, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso, van Gogh, etc.

Montmartre has also been the setting for several films, including An American in Paris, Moulin Rouge, French Cancan and Beauty and the Beast, 2017, a live action version of the 1991 animated film.

In the afternoon, we took the train into the heart of Paris, the Arc of Triumphe (they spell it Triomphe). It's at the start of the Avenue des Champs-Elysees. We walked down this famous avenue with all its theaters, cafes, luxury shops; known for the annual Bastille Day military parade and as the finish of the Tour de France cycle race. We saw several Maseratis, Lamborghinis and Porsches.

This evening at 6pm we begin our Seine River Cruise, which will carry us about 230 miles from Paris to Honfleur on the Normandy coast. We'll be there in the morning to start more adventures.
