Milan is a city in northern Italy and the second-most populous city in Italy after Rome. It served as capital of the Western Roman Empire from 286 to 404 BC.

Milan is considered a leading global city with strengths in the field of the art, commerce, design, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, services, research, and tourism.

The city has long been named fashion capital of the world and the world's design capital, thanks to several international events and fairs, including Milan Fashion Week and the Milan Furniture Fair, which are currently among the world's biggest in terms of revenue, visitors and growth. Coincidentally, we had an overnight stopover on our way to Malta, the same week as the Milan Furniture Fair.

However, from an historic point of view, it is most famous for the painting of the Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci.

The Milan Marriot has a beautiful art deco interior design. It was a perfect place to stay as it allowed us to walk to all the places we wanted to visit.

SANTA MARIA DE LA GRAZIE

If you could only visit one location in Milan, it would have to be Santa Maria de la Gracie to see Leonardo da Vinci’s, The Last Supper. It was an easy and interesting walk from our hotel.

CASTELLO SFORZESCO

Another mile beyond Santa Maria de la Gracie is Castello Sforzeco, a large and very interesting place to visit.

Sforza Castle was built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan, on the remnants of a 14th-century fortification. Later renovated and enlarged, in the 16th and 17th centuries it was one of the largest citadels in Europe. Extensively rebuilt by Luca Beltrami in 1891–1905, it now houses several of the city's museums and art collections.

DUOMO DI MILANO - MILAN CATHEDRAL

Our next stop was Milan Cathedral, the second most famous place to visit in Milan.

Milan Cathedral is the cathedral church of Milan, Lombardy, Italy. Dedicated to St. Mary of the Nativity, it is the seat of the Archbishop of Milan. The cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete. It is the largest church in Italy (the larger St. Peter's Basilica is in the State of Vatican City) and the third largest in the world.

Adjacent to the Duomo, is the Vittoria Emanuel Shopping Mall, a beautifully designed mall with all the high-end Italian and other international brands.
