Jeff and Cheryl New England Trip travel blog

We're on our noon instead of 11 AM. Not bad. Driving up here without using highways taught us a lot about New Jersey geography. Numerous towns we had not heard of, such as Martinsville, NJ. Nice drive. Much more interesting than interstates. We drove through the village of Goshen in NY. Nice small town with a nice downtown area. We stopped for gas. NY...pump your own gas! Before I could get out of the car, an attendant asked me what I wanted. Telling him I wanted to fill with regular, he proceeded to begin pumping the gas, without taking my credit card. While pumping, he cleaned the front and back windows. When finished, he took the card, ran it through the machine and brought me the slip to sign. Almost makes it worth the $3.25/gallon he charged.

Arrived at Mohonk. Up two miles of curves and uphill to the check in. Bags taken to the room and car parked by a valet. No tipping allowed. The resort is everything I remembered. Looks like the setting for the Shining. Lovely lake and mountains on the other side. We walked around the hotel and grounds for an hour or so then on to dinner. After a wonderful three course dinner, sitting on the porch in rocking chairs looking at the mountain disappear in the darkness almost put me to sleep. Very peaceful.

Looking forward to doing some hiking, shuffleboard and the like tomorrow. At 11:15 there is a hotel tour we're looking forward to. Well, we're going for an egg cream before turning in. Those of you not from NY can look up to see what an egg cream is.
